O.N.E. — Observe. Navigate. Escape.

A Sensory-Based Survival Strategy for Real-World Chaos

Active assailant situations are fast, loud, and unpredictable. That’s why we created O.N.E. — a survival framework rooted in what every person already has: their senses.

Developed by Securable Alternatives, O.N.E. empowers school-aged children and adults alike to rely on the instincts they’ve been building since birth—seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, and reacting to their environment. In crisis, calm is essential—and your senses are the most natural tools you have.

National Recognition: In 2018, the White House Federal Commission on School Safety acknowledged O.N.E. as a model program for nationwide consideration—reinforcing its value as a practical, inclusive, and effective approach to school safety.

Know Your Surroundings. Use Your Senses. Survive.

Your environment can protect you—if you know how to observe it. Whether you’re in a classroom, office, or public space, complacency can be deadly. Escape routes aren’t always obvious. They may be blocked, hidden, or chaotic. O.N.E. trains you to identify real-time opportunities and threats through sensory awareness.

Built for Everyone. Adaptable for All.

  • Easily understood by children

  • Effective for individuals with visual or hearing impairments

  • Taught in engaging, scenario-based formats

We also offer Train-the-Trainer programs for schools and organizations ready to lead from within.

⚠️ Note: O.N.E. is an original program created by Jason Destein. Unauthorized instruction or use without written consent is prohibited.

Remember: No plan guarantees survival—but having one, grounded in instinct and simplicity, gives you a critical advantage.

Observe

This is the most critical step—because you’ll continue observing throughout your entire response.

Stay fully aware of your environment—whether it’s a classroom, office, store, or coffee shop. Use all your senses:

  • LOOK for the threat, victims, or anything that can aid escape or concealment.

  • LISTEN for gunfire, voices, or movement.

  • TOUCH walls, doors, or floors—feel for vibrations or temperature shifts that signal danger.

  • SMELL smoke, chemicals, or anything unusual.

  • TRUST your instincts—they’re your built-in early warning system.

Observation isn’t passive. It’s your first layer of defense.
Be alert. Stay aware. React smarter.

Navigate

When it feels like the right time to move, trust your instincts—but stay sharp.
Your goal is simple: reach a safer location.

As you move:

  • OBSERVE continuously. Situations change fast—adapt as you go.

  • NAVIGATE based on what your senses tell you.

Use them all:

  • LISTEN for gunshots, screams, footsteps, or sirens—try to gauge distance and direction.

  • SMELL for smoke, gunpowder, or anything unusual—stronger scents may mean you're closer to danger.

  • LOOK for obstacles, exits, or signs of others needing help—or offering help.

Know who you’re moving with—children, coworkers, or strangers may influence your route or timing.

Move quickly, quietly, and with control.

Escape

When a safe opportunity presents itself—take it.

Survival hinges on time and calm. The sooner you act with control, the greater your chances.

  • Head toward the nearest exit—door or window—using all your senses to guide you.

  • Your instincts are your greatest tool. You’ve been training them your whole life.

  • Don’t let panic override your awareness. Stay focused. Stay grounded.

Calm is your advantage.
Use it to survive.

Training

Proper training matters. Don’t settle for instructors who lack real-world understanding of the Observe | Navigate | Escape method.

We provides expert-led training for schools, businesses, and organizations seeking a proven, practical approach to surviving active shooter or assailant events. We also offer a Train-the-Trainer option—because everyone deserves the tools to survive.
